Racanelli Construction Co.
Completes New Tennis Facility

Racanelli Construction Company, Inc. (Melville, NY) recently completed joint construction projects on behalf of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, New York.

Serving as General Contractor and Construction Manager, Racanelli provided its design/build services in the construction of a new tennis center for St. John the Baptist. Four old and deteriorating courts were removed and replaced with six new hard courts featuring the green and blue top coating consistent with the U.S. Tennis Association’s Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows where the U.S. Open is played. The lighting was designed to minimize the impact of the lighting on neighboring homes. To secure the courts and optimize conditions for the players, new fencing and windscreens were installed. The school’s new tennis courts have been named the Walter Lace Tennis Center.

In addition to the new grandstand and press box, Racanelli Racanelli replaced the school’s existing grandstand with a new state-of-the-art grandstand and press box offering a seating capacity for 1,700 spectators. The project involved the demolition and removal of old, deteriorated bleachers, recycling the old grandstand materials. A major site excavation and grading followed along with the installation of a new drainage system. A parking lot was also added.
